The right wing plot to get Lord Mackay

Article Abstract:

The two bills put forward by Lord Chancellor Lord Mackay to reform divorce and to extend protection against domestic violence to people who are neither spouses nor partners had been passing almost unnoticed by MPs through the various parliamentary procedures required before they could become law. However, very small indications of possible opposition to the bills were picked up on by the Daily Mail, which started to run articles speaking in very emotive terms of the need to ensure that divorce is not made any easier. The newspaper implied that a new fast-track parliamentary procedure had been deliberately used to ensure that any opposition was stifled.

The Oxbridge art of rowing as you row

Article Abstract:

Oxford University believes that the future of its traditional annual Boat Race against Cambridge University will be in doubt if the latter university continues its practice of effectively buying in international rowers by offering them bursaries. The event has always been shrouded in dispute and acrimony, ever since the first race in 1829, and has even had to be abandoned sometimes. Many observers now fear that both universities will simply use teams made up of extremely large and fit oarsmen imported from the US and other countries.
