The secret life of the riverbed

Article Abstract:

The Newlyn Art Gallery in Newlyn, England, will stage an exhibition of the works of photographer Susan Derges between Sep 19, 1998, and Oct 24, 1998. This exhibition, entitled 'River Taw,' presents her photograms, taken using a method of photography that does not involve a camera or a lens. These pictures focus on the ebb and glow of water, capturing ripples of water and river bed debris. The images are life-sized, and the viewer therefore gains a real sense of the force of the water.

Garment of earthly delight

Article Abstract:

The bra is no longer merely a functional garment. It has become a powerful image of femininity, and is closely linked with fantasy. It used to be advertised discreetly, but is now to be seen openly in all forms of media. It has made a significant mark on modern culture, and now means different things to different people. There is a danger that over-familiarity with the bra will cause it to lose some of its air of mystery.
