Luxury goods firms pin their hopes of revival on Japanese

Luxury goods firms such as Gucci and LVMH are suffering very difficult trading conditions. The best hopes for a revival in the sector rest with a recovery in the value of the Japanese yen, as the Japanese are estimated to represent 46% of all luxury goods spending.

Wimpey and McAlpine set to join house

The British housing constructors George Wimpey and Alfred McAlpine are set to merge. McAlpine would cost Wimpey around 450 million pounds sterling. Wimpey wants to strengthen its position in South-east England.
