The ultimate girls' night out

Article Abstract:

Feminists Germaine Greer, Erica Jong and Fay Weldon recently came together at the Purcell Room in London, England, to celebrate their role in battling against male oppression. Greer showed herself to be mean and tough, always looking for an opportunity to put men down. Weldon expressed the view that feminism was never a movement at all, but rather a gradual awareness of a growing belief that traditional social structure had to change. Jong stated that she felt that, despite the positive aspects of feminism, not much has changed for the better.

You call it fiction, I call it egotism

Article Abstract:

Novelist Hanif Kureishi was accused by Blake Morrison at a reading of his short novel 'Intimacy' of writing a personal confession. Kureishi denied this, stating that his novel is fiction, even though it is written in the first person. He believes that it is irrelevant where his material came from, as the important thing is what happens between the reader and the novel and whether the novel actually means anything to the reader. He in turn accused Morrison of being economical with the truth in his book about his father.
