The well man (a rare sight)

Article Abstract:

Many British men would like to see more men's health clinics, and there is also strong support for a men's confidential health hotline. It is common for men to feel that they do not have time to visit their GP, and they are often reluctant to talk about their health problems within the context of an ordinary GP surgery. Health services aimed specifically at men could be beneficial, but the inequality in health between men and women in the UK will only really be resolved when men make significant lifestyle changes.

Can a foetus feel pain?

Article Abstract:

Some observers believe that it is possible that considerable pain is caused to foetuses by terminations undertaken close to the legal limit of 24 weeks. The issue of whether and when foetuses feel pain also has implications for foetal surgery, which should be undertaken with analgesia if foetuses really do feel pain. Measuring how the foetal hormones and brain blood flow react to stimuli which an adult would find painful may be the best way of gaining reliable information on this subject.

Being male means being mortal

Article Abstract:

There are still only five Well Man clinics in the UK, even though the government's 1991 document on the state of public health highlighted the need to reduce illness among men. The death rate for men is still higher than that for women, and most men are unwilling to take action to maintain their health. They are less likely than women to seek medical advice, and do not even discuss health problems with their family or friends.
