The UK government is keen to convince ordinary people that economic recovery is in sight. However, an analysis of developments in the economy over the last 70 years shows that economy is likely to continue to be subject to fluctuations. It is no longer one of the most powerful economies in the world, and economic progress over recent decades has been very patchy. One of the main problems is that successive governments have failed to move away from old forms and been unwilling to look to the future.

Politics and taxation are objects of undue speculation

Article Abstract:

There will be a great deal of economic commentary in the run-up to the Budget and the general election in the UK. Much of this will be misguided, and this will cause unnecessary concern for investors. Contrary to the views of many ill-informed economic commentators, political instability does not necessarily have a negative impact on financial markets. Furthermore, a change of government will not have a very dramatic impact on tax and spending policy.

The mother of an 18-year-old addicted to cannabis recounts her experiences. The depths to which her son has sunk in order to raise money to purchase cannabis, including stealing jewellery from the family home, are detailed, and his failure to acknowledge his addiction is considered. The impact of his addiction on family life is explained, and her concerns for her son's future are presented.
