Their traumas, my trial - a Cheshire lawyer feels the pain of 220 children

Article Abstract:

It is very difficult for professionals dealing with child abuse cases to remain detached, according to lawyer Peter Garsden. He has become extremely closely involved with seeking compensation for 220 men and women who claim to have suffered abuse in children's homes in the north-west of England. He had to read detailed descriptions of horrific abuse, and these often left him in mental turmoil. He found it impossible to remain objective, and became involved with pressure groups.

When doctors haven't the faintest clue

Article Abstract:

Doctors in the UK have traditionally taken care not to let patients know that they cannot properly diagnose what is wrong with them. However, some doctors are now taking a more positive approach, admitting that there may be no clear diagnosis. They are giving patients a range of options about what could be wrong with them, and several choices on how the problem can be handled. This approach empowers patients to make choices with the support and advice of their doctor.
