They just refuse to grow up

Article Abstract:

Rock group The Fall first began performing and recording in 1976, but its music still has great immediacy and power. The music is strongly defined by the fact that the group's members come from Manchester, England, and seems to bring this city to life. It combines the ugly and the exotic, and is often arrogant and defiant. Singer-songwriter Mark E. Smith's voice is extremely raw, but he makes no apologies for this. The lyrics contain a vast array of images and social commentary.

A man of good character

Article Abstract:

JT Walsh, who died recently, was the most talented character actor in modern cinema. He established close links with playwright David Mamet early in his career, and was to become one of Mamet's group of favoured actors. He used his familiarity to his advantage, and never placed himself in danger of having his creativity restricted by typecasting. His work mainly explores the persona of the predatory middle-aged male who is ultimately frustrated.

Cut and print: tales of the celluloid city

Article Abstract:

Liverpool is proving to be a popular location for film makers, and the Liverpool Film Office (LFO) is seeking to build on this success. The city has the advantage of being well known already in the US as the home of the Beatles, and also offers architectural diversity. LFO is one of several film commissioning offices now covering various regions of the UK.
