The mirror has two faces

Article Abstract:

Madame Blavatsky, born in Russia in 1831, travelled extensively, coming into contact with a wide range of beliefs. She eventually settled in New York, NY, and by 1875 was claiming that she had established contact with a secret Brotherhood of adepts, or Masters, who protected mankind's spiritual life. She began to produce many 'phenomena,' and attracted many followers. She was declared a fraud in 1885, and her reputation never really recovered, even though her Theosophical Society continued to gain new members.

She has been characterised in the media as an 'angry young writer,' and her play is certainly vivid, linking domestic, personal, emotional and verbal violence with issues relating to war. She has always had very strong opinions, and has never been afraid of controversy.
