They'll have to manage

Article Abstract:

The UK Labour party has been preparing for becoming the party of government in a number of ways. These have included sending a team of around 90 people to Templeton College in Oxford, England, for a series of management sessions. There was strong emphasis on the working of departmental teams, with topics discussed including the workings of the civil service, the role of ministers and the Private Finance Initiative. Participants looked at leading companies where extensive change has taken place, and there was involvement by politicians with previous ministerial experience.

The winning and losing ways of Will Carling - rugby's first superstar

Article Abstract:

Will Carling, former captain of the England rugby team, should have retired from playing rugby sooner than he actually did. He was badly injured in Mar 1996, but chose to continue playing. He damaged his reputation by doing so, as his performance at the end of his career was rather poor. Furthermore, he also had public differences of opinion with other leading rugby figures. He was the leading figure in rugby in the UK for almost 10 years, but showed a certain naivety and lack of judgement.

We have ways of making you redundant

Article Abstract:

Many of the UK's leading companies now use psychometric testing in areas such as management training, personnel selection and redundancy selection. Such tests can be useful when properly validated, but there has been considerable controversy about their use in deciding which employees should be made redundant. In the area of recruitment, they can be useful in highlighting a person's strengths and weaknesses, but do not necessarily indicate a person's suitability for a particular job.
