Time to take a plunge into the stock market

Article Abstract:

Novice investors in the United Kingdom can obtain some advice from their banks, which point out that stock prices may drop as well as rise. The cost of stock dealing services is important for investors with only a small sum to buy stocks. Minimum charges and stamp duty means that charges are relatively high for investors with small sums. Documentation should be kept in a safe place since there is a charge for reproducing stock certificates. Private brokers are only worthwhile for investors with over 20,000 pounds sterling.

Welcome to the paperless future

Article Abstract:

Shareholders can choose between a paper certificate as proof of ownership and using a nominee to hold their shares. A nominee is a concern set up to hold shares and other securities for investors. The investors have the beneficial interest, which entitles them to dividends paid and any rise or fall in the value of the shares. There are certain advantages associated with placing shares into a broker's nominee company, including speedy and secure transfer of holdings, thus improving the efficiency of the broker's service.

When risk-takers are screened ...

Article Abstract:

It seems unlikely that many of the London International Financial Futures and Options Exchange's floor traders will be able to adapt successfully to an electronic trading system. Open outcry traders tend to focus on short-term developments, with deals often lasting only a few seconds between purchase and sale. In contrast, electronic trading requires a longer-term approach in which logical analysis and sound trading methodology are more important than instinct.
