Too much history is a dangerous thing

Article Abstract:

Kenneth Baker, previously a cabinet minister from the United Kingdom Conservative party, wants to raise funds to set up a British history museum. There are problems with this project. First, history is already celebrated in the UK, and other projects may be more urgent. There is also the difficulty of which aspect of British history should be on show, whether it is the achievements of a few great men, or the lives of ordinary people. There are also unsavory aspects of British history such as imperial excesses.

Derek Fatchett

Article Abstract:

Politician Derek Fatchett was Lecturer in Industrial Relations at Leeds University, England, between 1971 and 1983. He became Labour MP for Leeds Central in 1983, retaining this position until his death. He gradually moved from the hard left of the Labour party to the left-centre, as reflected by the fact that he took a place on Panel 2000, a body closely following the views of Prime Minister Tony Blair. He became Minister of State in the Foreign and Commonwealth Office in 1997.
