Tragic misadventure of maritime hero

Article Abstract:

Yachtsman Eric Tabarly, a national hero in France, has been lost at sea after having fallen from his yacht while sailing round the southwest corner of Wales. He had not been wearing a life-jacket, and was not attached to the yacht with a safety harness. The crew of the yacht were unable to radio for assistance because Tabarly distrusted radios and refused to have one on his yacht. By the time they were able to summon help, Tabarly had been in the water too long to have survived.

Winds of recession blow boatbuilders to Europe

Article Abstract:

Motor yacht sales in the UK compete with the sale of repossessed boats in 1993 but strong exports keep firms bouyant. BA Peters of Chichester, England had a big increase of continental orders after the pound sterling's devaluation in 1992. Sunseeker exports 98% and Marine Projects of Plymouth, England exports 80% of power boats although its sailing boat production has fallen from 400 a year to 140. Boating equipment sales are down but prices of boats and accessories are low.
