The weather in south-western Portugal is usually very good, and this makes it an ideal area for a horse-riding holiday. The Alentejo trail ride, which begins north of the Algarve, passes through a protected coastal strip. This ensures that riders have clear views of wildlife and the sea. The countryside is extremely attractive, featuring plains, forests and mountains. Horse-riding can be physically strenuous for those who are not accustomed to it, but it is still a very worthwhile holiday.
