UK: IDS SURVEY REVEALS WAGE LEVELS

Article Abstract:

A survey of wages for full-time work conducted by Incomes Data Services (IDS), the independent pay consultants, reveals that half the workforce earn between GB[pound] 10,000 and GB[pound] 20,000 per annum. The report found wide discrepancies in pay, with bar staff and hairdressers earning less than GB[pound] 200 per week, while MPs and doctors earn more than GB[pound] 900 per week, significantly higher than the average weekly earnings before tax of less than GB[pound] 411. However in a separate report the Confederation of British Industry warns of a increasing shortage of low-paid workers, including workers in hotels, bars and restaurants, and argues staff shortages will force employers to offer larger pay awards. According to the IDS report inflation has pushed wage settlements higher, with rises of 3% now being considered the benchmark.

UK: COMPANIES NOT KEEN ON STAKEHOLDER PENSIONS

Article Abstract:

Research conducted by Incomes Data Services (IDS) shows that around 64 out of 100 companies surveyed said they would open up their pension schemes to employees currently barred from them in a bid to avoid stakeholder pensions. Offering a pension scheme to all employees negates the need to introduce a stakeholder pension for staff not covered. This stance contrasted to the 21 firms that said that it would prohibit new staff from taking a defined-benefit scheme.
