UK: LOWER LOGISTICS COSTS ENVISAGED

Major growth in Internet-related business to business (B2B) sales will result on a 12% decline in logistics costs over the coming five years, according to a study by AT Kearney released on 14 February 2000. B2B sales are projected by the consultant to grow 25 times by 2003 and have a radical impact on the dynamics of purchasing operations within firms.

UK: INSURANCE TO BE OFFERED ONLINE IN FUTURE

Consumers in the UK will be purchasing the majority of their insurance policies via the Internet within five years, with many companies offering the advantage of instant cover. An increasing number of insurance firms are setting up their own websites and linking up with Internet brokers to market products directly to the customer. Consumers are also using online brokers, such as 1st Quote or Screen Trade, to save time gathering quotations. Both companies will immediately recommend several competitive quotations from various firms, and will offer the chance to purchase a policy online or via the telephone.
