UK: M&S SHELVES BROOKS BROTHERS PLAN

Article Abstract:

UK-based retail group, Marks & Spencer (M&S), has shelved plans to set up Brooks Brothers outlets in the UK, preferring instead to enhance its core operations in this country. M&S had been evaluating London sites for the US-style store as part of an international expansion plan but ongoing problems in the UK and Brooks' dismal showing in the US have led to a change of heart. M&S will look to transform the 150 existing Brooks outlets in the US rather than open 100 totally new stores.

Article Abstract:

Around 2,000 jobs will be created as a result of discount retailer, Matalan's expansion programme. The new stores, whose average size will be 30,000 square feet, will be larger than Matalan's existing outlets and will offer clothing, homewear and childrenswear.
