US: ELANCE.COM MARKET FOR FREELANCE SERVICES

Article Abstract:

As developed countries report skills shortages, particularly in IT, a solution might be to import their skills online. The communications revolution has allowed virtual workers to be created on the other side of the world. This could be the answer to the problem of persuading managers to take foreign postings. A company called elance.com has created an online marketplace for freelance services. It is expanding globally in the UK, Germany and Australia. It has done about US$ 30mn of business although McKinsey predicts a market for outsourced services of US$ 700bn by 2003. Only 20% of the service providers are individuals and many buyers are large corporations.

The Market is still expanding with many Freelance Sites like Elance springing up.
I also came across ivoireconsultancy.org which has been growing steadily over the past 6 months. I heard that ivoireconsultancy.org is in the process of launching a new powerful site with some innovative features to compete against the like of Elance and Guru. The main advantage about ivoireconsultancy.org is that the company recruit itself highly skilled consultants, sometime with more than 10 years and with a Master Degree.

I cannot wait to see how the new site will look like!

Supplying a 60m pounds sterling-a-year demand

Article Abstract:

Private teacher supply agencies are becoming firmly established in the UK in response to concerns about the poor standard of many supply teachers. There are now thought to be at least 50 such agencies, with turnover of more than 60 million pounds sterling a year. They employ more than 10,000 teachers a week, and usually earn a commission of almost 10% of salary for placing a teacher in a permanent post. There is now very strong competition between agencies in London, England.

Doctors' historic triumph over the Web of terror

Article Abstract:

A three-week trial in Portland, OR, has led to the operators of Nuremberg Files, an anti-abortion website, being ordered to pay $107 million in punitive damages. The legal action was prompted by the murder of Barnett Slepian in Oct 1998. The website listed the names of medical professionals involved in carrying out abortions, and several of these people testified that they were living in constant fear of falling victim to an attack by anti-abortionists.
