US: LITTLEWOODS BRINGS INTERNET SHOPPING TO T&S

Article Abstract:

Beginning with a trial early next year, the UK high street Littlewoods will install computer terminals in six stores belonging to the T&S convenience store chain. Customers will be able to view the 7,000 items on Littlewoods' Index web site, place an order and have the items delivered to their home, or to the store. T&S, which is converting its stores to the One Stop format, hopes that the trial will bring more customers to its outlets. Littlewoods is planning to give shoppers the chance to buy through interactive TV and the Internet, as well as through conventional shops.

UK: M&S THREATENS OVER WRONG ORDERS

Article Abstract:

Marks & Spencer (M&S), the struggling UK retailer, is threatening to fine clothing suppliers such as Coats Viyella, Dewhirst and Courtaulds Textiles over delivery of wrong goods. Although M&S already has clauses in its existing supplier agreements that allow it to impose fines, it has until now not chosen to exercise them. The decision follows claims that suppliers have been supplementing orders with garments of the wrong colour and size, in order to offset shortfalls. The crackdown is part of the retailer's new commitment to being 'more customer' focused.
