UK: BP AMOCO CONSIDERS NAME CHANGE FOR 2000

Article Abstract:

BP Amoco may adopt an entirely new name and logo when it finalises its US$ 30bn takeover of Atlantic Richfield (Arco) of the US. If it does so, Landor Associates of California will advise the company on its new corporate identity. The individual brand names of the 30,000 BP, Amoco and Arco petrol stations worldwide are so powerful, however, that it seems likely the company would wish to retain them in some form. BP Amoco is optimistic that its takeover of Arco will proceed, despite the caution expressed by the Federal Trade Commission. Meanwhile, chief executive Sir John Browne will be on hand at the Hemel Hempstead headquarters on 31 December 1999 to take personal control in the event of millennium bug problems.
