US strives to justify air strike on Sudan

Article Abstract:

An attack on a Sudanese pharmaceutical plant has been justified by the US as an attack on a chemical weapons production facility, a claim that the Sudanese government denies. The US has obtained samples of a chemical that is said to have a military usage, but there has been no information on how the sample of this chemical was acquired. The US also claims links between the plant and Iraq, with evidence gained from intercepting conversations between Iraqis and the plant.

American economy goes 'beyond history.' (US Federal Reserve Chmn Alan Greenspan)

Article Abstract:

The US economy is still in a virtuous cycle, according to Federal Reserve Chmn Alan Greenspan. Spending is being fuelled by rising equity values, and this is in turn boosting employment, output and capital investment. However, there is a danger that stock prices and credit spreads have been driven to levels that will be hard to sustain unless economic conditions remain extremely favourable. He is now primarily concerned about the labour market.

A healthy economy but sick society

Article Abstract:

The French economy is secure, with inflation down to 3%, wage settlements of 4% and a fall in the budget deficit. Privatisation and cutbacks in older industries have created a competitive trading force. Over 10% of the population is unemployed. Limited government spending increases of 3.5% will mainly go on education, which needs reform to meet job requirements.
