Uncle Walt's lost ancestors

Article Abstract:

It is possible that Walt Disney, for whom no reliable birth record exists, actually came from Lincolnshire, England. Research undertaken locally indicates that the Disney family was of Norman extraction, and there are indications that the family was relatively influential in the area. Walt Disney himself visited the area in 1949, and looked through large numbers of very old church registers in the village of Norton Disney. He was unable to unearth any clear details about his family history.

Amoy and the ancestors

Article Abstract:

Xiamen, an 80 sq km island connected to mainland China by a causeway, was formerly known as Amoy. It has a long history as a trading centre, and this is still clearly visible. Most of the best houses are now owned by overseas Chinese, and prices have risen sharply. Its main attraction is Gulangyu islet, which faces Xiamen city across a narrow channel. This has become the centre of a great deal of small-time business activity.
