Article Abstract:

Some 400 households in Todmorden, England, have had no television reception since Apr 2000, when a derelict cotton mill to which the reception mast was attached had to be demolished. There has been conflict between people who still have television reception and those who have had to manage without.

A fateful case of bad timing led to disaster

Gary Hart has been found guilty of causing the death by dangerous driving of 10 people who were in two trains that collided after his car left the motorway and plunged onto a railway line. It was found that he fell asleep while driving.

Article Abstract:

Many people feel that television has had a negative impact on cultural life in the UK. In fact, Britons are becoming increasingly educated and well-informed, and this is partly attributable to television, which can be seen as a significant cultural resource. Almost nobody can watch television and fail to learn something. However, there are a number of problems associated with terrestrial television in the UK, including its use of personalities and its focus on adversarial debate as the main way of presenting intellectual comment.
