Wanted: a vaccine to fight fears over the health of children

Article Abstract:

The UK government's Medical Control Agency has ordered the recall of a polio vaccine after finding that it had been made using foetal calf serum. This will add to already considerable fears among parents about the safety of vaccinations used to prevent childhood diseases. Experts warn that falling vaccination levels could lead to a return of very serious diseases such as polio.

Children to get 'safe play zones.'

Article Abstract:

The UK government plans to respond to concerns about parents keeping their children indoors for fear of them being run over or abducted by creating a series of 'home zones.' These will be areas in which pedestrians and cyclists have priority, with traffic being restricted through measures such as speed bumps. The Children's Society has emphasized that play is vital in encouraging children to communicate properly with their peers and that the dangers to children from playing outside, at least in terms of being abducted, are much smaller than parents generally believe.
