We'll fight them on the beaches of Blackpool

Article Abstract:

The European Parliament in Strasbourg, France, discussed food colourings in Mar 1993. There are 44 permitted colourings in the UK, but few are in basic foods in 1993. Two possibly toxic red colourings, E127 Erythrosine, which is used in seaside rock, liquorice allsorts and glace cherries, and E128 Red 2G, which is in sausages and luncheon meat, may be banned. The EC may also ban annatto, used in Red Leicester and Double Gloucester cheese. The European Commission Scientific Committee for Food approves permitted colourings, but some fear it is not impartial.
