What's IT done wrong? Er, nothing

Article Abstract:

It is very unclear why many investors have dumped considerable quantities of information technology (IT) shares since summer 1998. The main reason seems to be that investors are concerned about the exposure of IT companies to the financial services sector. Many observers believe that investors have overreacted, pointing out that IT companies still have considerable growth potential. Stockbroker Albert E. Sharp believes that IT companies will not necessarily be negatively affected if the UK economy goes into recession. Indeed, some may even thrive.
