When I grow up I want to be ... a millionaire!

Article Abstract:

Publisher Bob Guccione Jr. idolized his father, the infamous publisher of soft porn magazines, when he was a child. He wanted to become the publisher of Penthouse when he grew up, and also had aspirations to be a writer, but did not regard himself as sufficiently talented. He worked at Penthouse in his 20s, but decided to branch out on his own, as he did not really have much enthusiasm for soft porn. He felt abandoned when his music magazine venture was rejected by his father in 1988, but was determined not to dwell on this. He has now become a millionaire in his own right, but prefers to continue to work.

First port of call for a lucrative media market

Article Abstract:

There has been a significant increase in interest in design and decor in Portugal since 1995, according to British-born magazine magnate Anthony Smith, who launched Interiores, a monthly guide to decorating and furnishing on a budget, in 1997 and City, a monthly review of arts and entertainment, in Oct 1998. Both magazines have proved very popular with their target A/B audience. Smith believes that the Portuguese have become more culturally aware and that they now want to spend time and money having fun.
