Where will Blair find the critics in this Parliament?

Article Abstract:

The leadership battle which is currently taking place within the UK Conservative party will not necessarily lead to the party becoming united and having a strong sense of purpose. If it does not, then Prime Minister Tony Blair will not face any effective opposition in the House of Commons. This would have significant implications for UK politics, as even the strongest of governments need effective opposition to make them perform even better. At present, Blair has a very large majority, and this gives him great freedom of action.

Tony and Gordon: the continuing saga of a beautiful friendship

Article Abstract:

The personal relationship between UK Prime Minister Tony Blair and Chancellor Gordon Brown can be regarded as the most important alliance in public life in the UK at present. It is likely to prove one of the most deeply influential political relationships in the history of UK politics. The two men have worked closely together since the 1980s, and communicate with each other very frequently. They inevitably disagree on some issues, but their disagreements are overcome by shared values and experiences.

Labour claims victory in war of words

Article Abstract:

Labour party leader Tony Blair has responded strongly to criticism of his concept of the 'stakeholder economy' by John Major and Michael Heseltine, accusing the Conservatives of abandoning centrist 'one-nation' political territory. This has now come the domain of the Labour party. He has rejected an idea of giving power back to the trade unions, and has emphasised that the Labour party is very concerned about the plight of the long-term unemployed.
