Whichever way the chips may fall...

Article Abstract:

Intel Chmn Andy Grove, who is touring Europe at a time when his company is set to face competition from AMD's Athlon chip, believes strongly in strategic inflection points for business, with new technologies changing the parameters for all players. He has emphasized that Intel is determined to compete with any company entering the microprocessor sector, and has indicated that there is no part of the sector in which the company is not interested. He rejects claims that Intel has an unhealthy monopoly on the PC market.

Meet Big Brother's worst nightmare

Article Abstract:

Computer encryption is necessary because technology allows large-scale monitoring of communications, according to software engineer Phil Zimmerman, a senior fellow with Network Associates. He regards encryption as a form of envelope for electronic mail. For him, encryption has become a political issue, as he basically distrusts government. He does not believe that strong encryption would be to the benefit of criminals, as criminal activity always leaves traces.
