Who's a very happy racist?

Article Abstract:

Pauline Hanson, founder of Australia's One Nation party, has had an extremely significant impact on the political landscape in Australia. She has gained political prominence extremely rapidly since being elected to federal parliament as an independent MP in 1996, and her policies, which include banning Asian immigrants and reviving the White Australia policy, have sparked off heated political debate. She has gained very little support in urban areas, but her policies are popular in rural areas, where people have been very negatively affected by the pace of economic change.

Happy centenary, electron!

Article Abstract:

The discovery of the electron in Apr 1897 by British physicist Joseph John Thomson was extremely significant. He showed that cathode rays, and therefore electricity, were made up of very small bullet-like particles, which were soon known as electrons. This discovery meant that the nature of electricity was finally understood. Furthermore, it also demonstrated that the atom was not the smallest thing in existence, as had been believed for many generations.
