Oh, for the village life in the heart of the city

Article Abstract:

Many house purchasers in the UK are attracted to homes located in village communities within cities. They seek places where there is a mixture of properties, where there are open spaces and where facilities such as shops are within walking distance. However, there is danger that such communities become exclusively middle-class, without the true social mix found in genuine villages in rural locations. In rural areas, many people, especially the elderly, are leaving villages as local facilities close down.

Farewell to the English gent

Article Abstract:

The England with which Lord Hunt of Llanfairwaterdine, who made a successful ascent of Everest in 1953 and died recently, was familiar is gradually fading away. The England of fair play, self-effacing humour, patriotism and gentle monarchism is being replaced with an England where modesty, kindness and restraint are no longer valued. The England of the past clearly had some negative elements, but Hunt himself proved that it contained much that was honourable, good and interesting.
