Why the military is still no place for a woman

Article Abstract:

There are many difficulties associated with ensuring equal opportunities for women in the US army. This has been highlighted by the recent case of drill sergeant Delmar Simpson, who was convicted on 18 counts of rape. It was revealed that sexual activity between trainees and trainers at the Aberdeen, MY, training centre was rife, with women frequently enjoying the fact that they were outnumbered by men. The US army seems to be very keen to be seen to be taking firm action against affairs, rather than acting only where military discipline is endangered.

Little hope for the French on the edge

All the candidates in France's forthcoming presidential election have emphasised the importance of dealing with the country's socially and economically disadvantaged suburbs, but many voters believe that they have not promised enough. Front runner Jacques Chirac has made the most extensive promises, but inhabitants of poor suburbs actually see him as the cause of many of their problems.
