Why we don't deserve to feel deprived
Article Abstract:
The rise in aspirations and individualism, along with the inability for them to be fulfilled in most cases, has been a key factor in the increase in unhappiness in UK society. Many people aspire to being famous in some way, but in fact they have only average talents. This means that they are obliged to use other skills, particularly self-promotion and fraudulence, if they are to become famous. The strongly aspirational nature of UK society is partly the direct result of Thatcherism, with commercialism and entrepreneurialism favouring those with few scruples.

Why we deserve 500,000 candles
Article Abstract:
The UK's further education sector, which was created in 1993 through a government declaration of college independence from local authority control, has proved itself able to offer high-quality provision to young people. However, young people only account for just over 20% of the 4 million people who study each year at further education colleges. The real success of further education has been in its diversity, ranging from basic life skills to higher education degrees. Further education colleges are able to provide for the needs of individual learners.

The bereaved deserve better
Article Abstract:
Legal issues arising from the sinking of the 'Marchioness' pleasure boat in Aug 1989, when 51 people died, have still not been resolved. Relatives of the victims have had their grief made worse by their inability to obtain the true facts about what actually happened, and the handling of the case raises serious questions about government accountability. The government has consistently refused to hold a public inquiry, but a resumed inquest is now to commence under a new coroner.
