Wide gap in success of fertility treatments

Article Abstract:

Many people may have been paying large sums of money for low quality fertility treatments, according to a report published by the Human Fertilisation and Embryology Authority (HFEA). This indicates that there are wide variations in the success rates of the more than 90 fertility units listed. However, experts have dismissed the results of the survey, stating that it could have the negative outcome of obliging some units to give up research and focus on improving success rates for purely commercial reasons.

Operations halted in huge recall of blood

Article Abstract:

The National Blood Authority (NBA) has had to withdraw aruond 5,000 pints of blood, or up to 15% of the national stock, following fears that it may have become contaminated through being stored in imported bags which have been found to have a faulty seal. The NBA has already faced severe criticism over administrative issues, and is now being accused of jeopardising the blood supply in its efforts to cut costs. The problem is now being discussed with Australian bag manufacturer Tuta.
