Wilder abandons the White House race

Article Abstract:

Virginia Governor Douglas Wilder abruptly withdrew from the competition for the 1992 Democratic presidential nomination, giving Bill Clinton the chance to gather up most of the black vote. The first ever black governor, Wilder was losing popularity in Virginia where there is a mounting budget crisis . Five candidates remain, the most popular being Clinton who is expected to do well in the Southern States primaries in March 1992.

Forbes win throws race wide open

Article Abstract:

The recent victory of Steve Forbes in the Arizona primaries has highlighted that there is no clear favourite to win the Republican party's presidential nomination. Steve Forbes now has the most delegates of all the candidates to nominate at the San Diego convention in summer 1996, but there will still be fierce battles in forthcoming primaries. The most important will be in California, to be held on Mar 26, 1996.
