Will of the people?

Article Abstract:

Shakespeare's plays are now seen as very conservative but in their day they were very political. It is unfortunate for us that his plays have lost all their political meaning. Some of the hidden meanings are pointed out by students but others, for instance the religious meanings in Measure for Measure, are lost to us. Attendance at his plays was expensive, the modern equivalents being around two to three pounds sterling to stand and between 20 and 30 pounds sterling for a seat. Shakespeare is considered now to have been an establishment 'creep' who should be reevaluated.

The PIA aims to harmonise responsibility and provide a proper compensation fund. Government funding is unlikely. Many fund managers oppose the setting up of PIA and would rather remain with Imro.

Faust, furious and surprisingly funny

Article Abstract:

Goethe's 'Faust' is generally regarded as an extremely serious work, the second part of which cannot really be adapted for the stage. However, it in fact has considerable relevance for modern society. There are Faustian motifs everywhere in society, and Goethe himself put together his material from popular stories. The second part has a large element of satire and bizarre invention, and the work finishes as an Enlightenment tragedy.
