Nightmares of torture haunt exiled witnesses

Article Abstract:

Inspector Abdessalam is an exiled policeman from Algeria. He was a policeman from 1981 and the police began to suffer attacks from 1988. The police responded by shooting suspected terrorists. Suspects were also tortured with methods including forcing them to drink acid, and removal of their nails. Some suspects died because of the torture, and others were killed and secretly buried. Abdessalam began to fear that the deaths of policemen could be linked to government activity rather than that of terrorists, and he became an exile.

Tortured inmates are 'chips to Israel.'

Article Abstract:

Israeli officials have indicated that the inmates of the notorious Khiam prison in southern Lebanon are 'bargaining chips' for missing Israelis. Israel does not intend to try these prisoners. Some of the prisoners were captured while attacking Israeli occupation troops, while others have been kidnapped. All are treated extremely harshly, with torture being routine. There are at least 170 Lebanese in Israeli prisons, including 128 in Khiam.
