Writers of insight and insanity

Article Abstract:

English literature lecturer Gwen Watkins, whose poet husband was schizophrenic and whose son suffered from manic depression, suspects there is a connection between creativity and mental illness. One-third of literary people suffer insanity to some degree, compared with one in 20 of the general public. Mrs Watkins, Ruth Pryor and Dr Gordon Claridge, lecturer in abnormal psychology, conducted research into the possible link. Patterns of thought and emotional responses run in families. Fantasy and divergent thinking exist in creative and insane thought.

An unkind - and unnecessary - cut

Article Abstract:

Campaigners against male circumcision argue that in almost all cases it is unethical, unnecessary and potentially illegal. It is clear that circumcision can cause both physical and psychological damage. Around 30,000 circumcisions are performed on National Health Service patients in the UK each year, ostensibly for medical reasons. Opponents of circumcision believe that in around two-thirds of these cases there is no real medical need for a circumcision to be performed.

Wagon's role

Article Abstract:

Travelling by camper van through California can be a very interesting experience. The camper van offers comfortable accommodation, and after a short time becomes a real family home. Children enjoy helping with everyday tasks at campsites, while adults welcome the chance to visit remote locations with beautiful scenery. It is worth making the effort to find places to stop other than specialized mobile home sites, which can be rather soulless.
