You might not guess it, but Tony and John are on the same side

Article Abstract:

UK Prime Minister Tony Blair and Deputy Prime Minister John Prescott both revealed their true feelings for a very short time. Blair expressed frustration about the inflexible nature of the public sector, while Prescott emphasized the values of the public sector. There is a sense that the government contains a small number of people involved in Blair's project and a group of those who are not, to which Prescott belongs. However, Prescott agrees with Blair about the need to reform the public sector in a way that the public sector will not always approve.

Class warrior at bay

Article Abstract:

UK Deputy Prime Minister John Prescott entered government with a clear idea of his political priorities. He has always placed more emphasis on the formation of policy than on its presentation. Prime Minister Tony Blair has adopted a sensitive approach to Prescott, ensuring that he has a certain degree of political freedom. Prescott has faced considerable problems since he stood in for Blair at Prime Minister's Question Time, when he performed badly and appeared not to have a grasp of policy.

Don't get depressed: just see the 'big picture' in Northern Ireland

Article Abstract:

UK Prime Minister Tony Blair has devoted a great deal of attention to attempting to broker a peace settlement in Northern Ireland, but has so far been unsuccessful. Indeed, there is now a very negative atmosphere surrounding the peace negotiations. However, there is reason to be optimistic about the future of Northern Ireland if Blair is prepared to take a wider view. He must recognize that he remains in a strong position to bring about a peace settlement.
