A grassroots success story

Article Abstract:

The Rouge River Valley has remained a greenbelt despite the rapid urban development surrounding the area largely because of initiatives by the Save the Rouge movement. Protest activities spearheaded by the group has gained legal protection for the region, establishing it as a natural park.

The snow goose dilemma

Article Abstract:

The tundra ecosystem in Churchill, Manitoba is being threatened by the increasing number of snow geese population. Estimated between 3-5 million, the birds have harmed the tundra plant life, leaving other animals such as yellow rails and wigeons without food and shelter.

Important bird areas get federal support

Article Abstract:

Federal government is placing $1.25 million from the Millennium Fund to boost the Natural Legacy 2000 program. The grant is expected to help the Canadian Nature Federation and other conservation societies in boosting the Canadian Important Bird Areas program.
