A river runs through them

Article Abstract:

Anthropologist Edward Liebow and the volunteers of Earthwatch interviewed Skagit River Valley residents for getting their insights regarding the things that unite and divide the lives of people affected by the Skagit River, and reasons for the decrease in the population of salmons. The research showed that members within a constituent group were divided on the ways for improving the river's habitat but Edward Liebow hopes that his research will help the people in identifying their common goals.

New science advisors shed light on sustainability: An interview with Dr. Wade Davis

Article Abstract:

Dr. Wade Davis, Explorer-in-Residence at National Geographic, who is also an anthropologist, botanical explorer, best-selling author and who has been appointed in the Science Advisory Committee (SAC) of Earthwatch, feels that one can attain sustainability through directly experiencing the other things in the world through anthropology. He is of the opinion that the academic anthropology community has become very secretive and does not allow outsiders to join or gain information.

The battling ape: Are conflict and warfare innate in human nature?

Article Abstract:

Some eminent archaeologists and anthropologists have expressed their unique perspectives on the issue of prehistoric and historic conflict, and what one could learn from it about human resource and cultural exchange. The responses give some measure of hope for the way archaeological evidence of the roots of war could help one contend with 21st-century conflicts.
