Academic Sequencers Challenge Celera in a Sprint to the Finish

Article Abstract:

The Human Genome Project has received large grants from the US government and the Wellcome Trust, a British charity, in 1999. These extra funds may make it possible to sequence the 3 billion bases in the human genetic code by the spring of 2000. The money is being concentrated in the most efficient labs, in order to compete with the private company Celera Genomics.
