Adsorption of weak polyelectrolytes on metal oxide surfaces: a hybrid SC/SF approach

Article Abstract:

A study shows the adsorption of weak polyelectrolytes on metal oxide surfaces on a hybrid SC/SF model. The model doubles the surface complexation (SC) model for the influence of surface and sulfate speciation on the adsorption of monomers on oxides having the Scheutjens-Fleer (SF) model for the influence of macromolecular characteristics on the adsorption of polymers and polyelectrolytes on surfaces. The study aims to extend existing theoretical frameworks for the adsorption of weak polyelectrolytes on metal oxide surfaces, experiment on the new model, and provide a simpler view of the adsorption process.

Photoisomerization kinetics of stilbene-type fluorescent whitening agents

Article Abstract:

Photoisomerization of three stilbene-type fluorescent whitening agents (FWAs) in an aqueous solution determines photodegradation rates and the distribution of isomers. The ratio of the cis isomers to the trans isomers of the three FWAs increases with rising temperature. However, the fluorescent lifetimes of the cis and trans isomers of the three FWAs are inversely correlated with increasing temperature.
