CRADA mania: will joint research make U.S. industry competitive?

Article Abstract:

Cooperative research and development agreements (CRADAs), or agreements the government enters into with colleges or businesses, are designed to improve the US' competitiveness. Opponents believe that CRADAs involve too much bureaucracy, and research indicates that CRADAs are not highly successful.

An express route to the genome?

J. Craig Venter and his research team at the Institute for Genomic Research is undertaking a race to beat the Human Genome Project in mapping the human genome. Venter is a renowned geneticist and his teams aim is to map the Genome by May 2001 as opposed to the Human Genome Project's 2005 deadline.

Darwin denied: opponents of evolution make gains in schools

Opponents of Darwinian evolution are making headway in schools. They are supporting the release of the textbook 'Of Pandas and People: The Central Question of Biological Origins' in public schools. The book pushes for a theistic formula called 'intelligent design.'
