An immune boost to the war on cancer

Article Abstract:

Advancement in the understanding of the immune system at the molecular level has led to innovative cancer treatments. Scientists are studying how cancer-attacking immune cells work. Studies indicate that T cells are turned on by an antigen known as B7, which is know being tested in clinical trials.

T cell inactivation linked to Ras block

Article Abstract:

Two research teams have discovered evidence suggesting that T cell anergy is caused by a block in the Ras signalling pathway. The finding suggests that anergy is not a laboratory artifact as many immunologists believe, but that it plays an important role in the immune response.

T cells on the mucosal frontline

Article Abstract:

Studies indicate that the gamma-delta T cell may play an important role in combating pathogens despite their sparse numbers in the body. These maverick T cells may be a front line of defense against pathogens entering the body through mucosal surfaces.
