The human gene hunt scales up

Article Abstract:

National Cancer Institute Chmn Richard Klausner is leading an effort to quicken to pace of capturing and analyzing full-length human genes. Klausner has been authorized to spend $19 million on the 'Cancer Genome Anatomy Project,' which seeks to develop high-volume gene analysis and sequencing technologies.

Broder to join exodus from NCI

Article Abstract:

National Cancer Institute dir Samuel Broder has announced plans to leave the agency for a position as chief scientific officer of IVAX Corp. His decision is the latest in a series of NCI resignations, a trend attributed to opportunities in the private sector and restrictions on NCI staff.
