An immunosensor for the automatic determination of the antifouling agenct Irgarol 1051 in natural waters

Article Abstract:

An immunosensor has been developed for the evaluation of Irgarol, an antifouling agent. The completely automated flow-through immunosensor, which can perform a whole analysis cycle in around 23 minutes, is based on a heterogenous competitive enzyme immunoassay, and utilizes binder azlactone support with immobilized protein A/G. The sensor, which is susceptible to some interferences from tert-butyl-containing s-triazine compounds, is utilized to determine trace levels of Irgarol 1051 in water samples, such as beach seawater, estuarine river water and lake water. This is conducted without any sample pretreatment aside from adjusting the pH and ionic strength of samples to those of standards.

Scanning probe microscopy of environmental interfaces: the method is producing atomic-scale views and data needed to strengthen models

Article Abstract:

One of the promising technologies expected to improve environmental chemistry research is the scanning probe microscopy, which enables researchers to gain new insights into the fundamentals of interfacial chemistry. The utility of scanning probe microscopy in environmental chemistry is in its ability to monitor key energetic parameters of reactive sites, especially between fluids and particles. The techniques ability to monitor real-time chemical reactions is also important in gaining insights into combinatorial chemistry that will enhance the effectivity of chemical treatment strategies.
