An investigation of the effects of layer thickness on the fracture behavior of layered NiAl/V composites

Article Abstract:

Results demonstrate that vanadium layers of 100, 200, and 400 mu meter significantly improve fracture toughness of nickel aluminum powder composite layers. Data indicate that increased toughness with increasing layer thickness is due to bridging of the cracks through propagation of vanadium layers.

Fatigue damage mechanisms of bridging fibers in titanium metal matrix composites

Article Abstract:

A fatigue fracture model is presented for the analysis of time-dependent evolution of axial stresses and strength degradation of the fiber due to damage processes. The model is tested for bridging fibers of SiC/titanium metal composite material that is subjected to different loading conditions.

Manufacture and testing of a functionally graded material

Article Abstract:

This paper presents a new technique for the fabrication and fracture testing of Functionally Graded Materials (FGMs). Data show that FGMs exhibit a built-in fracture resistance for greater driving force to maintain crack growth.
