Antibodies linked to rare epilepsy; a rare but serious form of childhood epilepsy

Article Abstract:

Research indicates that Rasmussen's encephalitis may be an autoimmune disease that develops when autoantibodies activate glutamate receptors, which stimulate nerve cells, causing seizures. This finding could lead to methods of treatment other than hemispherectomy, complete removal of half the brain.

A recipe for river recovery?

Article Abstract:

California's Trinity River will be the first test of a new model for river restoration, in which seasonal high and low flows are replicated. The US FIsh and Wildlife Service's standard physical habitat simulation model (PHABSIM) had focused too narrowly on the habitat of a single fish species.

Researchers are developing a new generation of cancer drugs that counteract the activities of oncogenes and other genetic changes leading to cancer. The new drugs have the advantages of being more specific and less toxic than earlier therapies.
