Plastic power: polymers take a step forward as photovoltaic cells and lasers

Article Abstract:

Semiconducting polymers may soon be used for photovoltaic cells and lasers. Researchers at the Advanced Research Development in Athol, MA, have designed plastic solar cells utilizing polyvinyl alcohol and polyacetylene. Films of this copolymer can convert 75% of the light received into electricity.

Suicide prevention

Article Abstract:

Neurobiological research reveals a significant correlation between suicidal tendencies and serotonin levels in the brain. Brain tissue samples from groups predisposed to high suicide rates, such as alcoholics, showed a high number of serotonin receptors and low levels of serotonin.
